MEX-ECO TOURS
Veracruz
Join Mex-ECO Tours on this exciting new trip to the historic port city of Veracruz, and its surrounding cultural and natural attractions, including the Voladores de Papantla, the archaeological site of Tajin, Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve, Lake Catemaco, and the coffee producing region of Coatepec.
The City of Veracruz, originally named La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz, was the first permanent Spanish settlement and municipality created on the Mexican mainland, established by Hernan Cortes in 1519. Explore this historically important city and enjoy its vibrant atmosphere around the main plaza.
The next part of this tour takes us to Los Tuxtlas, a mountainous, jungle-covered region in the southern part of the state of Veracruz, famous for its rich biodiversity, lakes, and traditions. Enjoy a boat ride round Lake Catemaco, as well as a visit to the spectacular waterfall of ‘El Salto de Eyipantla’.
From Los Tuxtlas we head up into Mexico’s coffee capital, Coatepec; here the coffee is grown at altitudes of over 1,200 meters in volcanic soil and under shade, giving it a unique flavor with notes of cocoa and nuts – known as the best coffee in Mexico! From here we are just half an hour from the state’s capital, Xalapa, where we will visit the Anthropology Museum to see the famous Olmec heads that were discovered in the region.
The last part of this tour takes us to learn about pre-Hispanic culture and tradition: First stop, the UNESCO World Heritage site of El Tajin, famous for its unique Pyramid of the Niches and twenty ancient ball courts that served as the heart of classic Totonac culture; followed by the Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) of Papantla, home of the Voladores de Papantla (Papantla Flyers).
