Tapalpa

Join us on this 3 day, 2 night trip to the picturesque Pueblos Mágicos (Magic Towns) of Tapalpa and Sayula.

On day one of this tour we visit the beautiful Sayula, famous for being the birth-place of one of Mexico’s most famous novelists, Juan Rulfo. Sayula is also famous for its delicious artisanal ‘cajeta’ (a Mexican caramel), made in copper pots and cooked to perfection! Watch how this local delicacy is made and try some of their different products – you’ll be sure to buy some!

Another must-see in Sayula is a visit to the Ojeda family store – the result of 14 generations of refining the art of producing fine knives.

From Sayula we head up into the hills to the gem that is Tapalpa. Enjoy some free time to browse the cobbled streets of this traditional town, then join us to learn about natural remedies produced in the indigenous community of Atacco. Our visit to Tapalpa would not be complete without taking you to see the impressive ‘Piedrotas de Tapalpa’, a series of unusully large rocks in the meadows, against the backdrop of pine forest. Although not everyone agrees on the origin of these rocks, while some claim that they are meteorites, others say that they are natural formations in the ground that were uncovered by a strong current of water.
