Yucatán & Mayan Train

Enjoy this breathtaking tour of the Yucatán Peninsula and the Palenque jungle, including the new Mayan Train!

This tour includes the ancient Mayan city of Palenque, the coastal city of Campeche, Mérida, Chichén Itzá, Valladolid, Tulum, Uxmal, and flamingos in Celestun.

Our tour begins in the jungle of Chiapas, where you’re likely to hear the howler monkeys roar as you explore the impressive Mayan site of Palenque and learn about its importance in Mexico’s prehispanic history. From Palenque we take the Mayan Train to the colourful coastal city of Campeche – here we explore the city’s unique historic centre, surrounded by protective walls and fortresses that were built in the 17th century to protect it from pirate attacks.

The next day of this tour takes us to the archaeological site of Uxmal and for a special chocolate experience followed an afternoon arrival to Merida. After a full day in Merida (or optional tour to see the flamingos in Celestun), we head to the famous Mayan site of Chichen Itzá, via the colonial city of Izamal, and then onwards to the beautiful city of Valladolid for a swim in one of the most attractive cenotes in Mexico.

The final section of this tour takes us to the pristine coastline of the Riviera Maya, where you will have time to relax on the beach within a nature reserve, just minutes from the archaeological site of Tulum (optional visit to archaeological site).

DATES

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:

Medium* – generally easy going with more demanding walk at Chichen Itza and Tulum, but all flat walking and with regular breaks for information.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Sun screen, hat, long sleeves for evenings, comfortable walking shoes.

CLIMATE:

 Hot during day time, slightly cooler in evenings.
